It’s not often that you have the opportunity to hike through a lush green landscape along a path that passes the second largest boiling volcanic lake in the world, a 200-foot waterfall, bright green swimming holes, gaping gorges and untouched rainforest. Of course, all of this can only be seen if you spend the two weeks it takes to hike the new Waitukubuli National Trail, which will spit you out at the Cabrits National Park at the end of the long distance trek.

The 115 mile trail, which runs south to north and is relatively new to Dominica, actually follows the enduring 200-year-old walking paths of the Kalinago Caribs, as well as some previous slave routes that led to sugar plantations. But the trail itself isn’t completely finished, and won’t be fully completed until sometime next year.

Although the Waitukubuli Trail isn’t officially open yet, it’s certainly already calling adventurers’ names around the world. And after it’s completed, it will provide anyone willing to take the time and effort to trek the trail with an awesome view of Dominica’s intensely beautiful natural landscape.
